Generation No. 1

        1.  John (Sir)2 Horner  (John Stewart1) was born November 30, 1530 in London, England, and died November 24, 1587.  He married Meriel Malte, daughter of John Malte.  She was born 1530 in England, and died 1587 in England.

        2.  Thomas (Sir)3 Horner (John (Sir)2, John Stewart1) was born 1547 in Colford & Mells, Somerset, England, and died February 15, 1609/10 in Colford & Mells, Somerset, England.  He married Jane Popham, daughter of John Popham and Amie Games.  She was born Abt. 1553 in Huntsworth, Somerset, England, and died 1587 in England.

Generation No. 3

        3.  Amy4 Horner (Thomas (Sir)3, John (Sir)2, John Stewart1) was born 1585 in Mells, Somersetshire, England, and died Bef. 1658 in Frampton, Cotterell, Glouceter Co., England.  She married John Clark (Esquire) Symes 1600 in England, son of William Symes and Elizabeth Hill.  He was born March 04, 1571/72 in Chard, Pitminister Parish, Somersetshire, England, and died October 21, 1661 in Frampton, Cotterell, Gloucester Co., England.

Notes for Amy Horner:
Amy was from a very illustrious family.  Her grandfather, Sir John Horner, was also a High Sheriff and a very powerful politician.  He is also the man about whom the poem "LIttle Jack Horner" was written about.

Notes for John Clark (Esquire) Symes:
Esquire John Symes wrote his will May 10, 1658 proved December 19, 1661. He was a Barrister, Lincoln's Inn 1589, Country Gentleman andKnight of Shire, member of Parliament for Somerset (1624 & 1625, Justice of the Peace 1612 - Civil War (40 years), High Sheriff for Somerset 1627, Knight of the Shire.  He inherited his father's property in 1597.

A monument to the memory of John  Symes is in the Church of Bishop Hull  The monument indicates "Here lyeth the body of John Symes of Poundisford, in the Parish of Pityminister in the county of Somerset, Esquire, he was born on the 4th day of March, 1572 (in the 12th year of Queen Elizabeth).  He lived soberly, righteously and godly, and died on the 21st day of October 1661." The engraving is on a brass plate surmounted iwth the arms of Symes.

When ware broke out he took the king's side and had to flee to Glouchester when Cromwell confiscated his property.  After Cromwell's death, Charles II was crowned king in 1660 and the land was restored to the family.  John was an old man by then and was probably too weak to return. 
He matriculated from Exeter College, Oxord at the early age of 14 and received his BA September 7, 1591.

Notes for Thomas Symes:
Reference to William Symes in the will of his aunt, Elizabeth langton, Sister of Amy Bridges, Doynton County, Glouchester, Widow.
January 13, 1669, "I give unto Wlm Symesm, Thomas Symes and Richard Symes, sons of my nephew Wlm Symes the sum of 10 Pds apeace & I give unto my sisger Amy Symes the like sum".
